RCMP have charged two people for impaired driving on northern Manitoba's winter roads, even though the roads have not officially opened to traffic.
The most recent charge came after a vehicle with four women inside crashed and rolled on Feb. 7. It happened on the road between Garden Hill First Nation and St. Theresa Point First Nation at about 11 p.m.
The four women could not exit the vehicle, which was on its passenger side at the edge of the road in the snow bank, RCMP said.
RCMP members and local bystanders helped the women out and then took them to the local nursing station.
None of them was seriously injured.
The 20-year-old driver was charged for drunk driving and has been released from custody on a promise to appear in court on March 14 in St. Theresa Point.
The other impaired arrest came a few days earlier, police said.
The RCMP are reminding the public that the winter roads are still closed and travel is not advised.
