Winnipegger Patrick Molloy has endured 30 rounds of radiation and chemotherapy, spent 30 days in hospital, and gone six months of being unable to speak.

Now, this 41-year-old cancer survivor is taking his fight to the boxing ring.

Six years ago, Molloy was diagnosed with a nasty and aggressive tongue cancer that affected his speech but not his attitude.

Given only a small chance of survival, Molloy beat the odds.

His focus is now on training for a big amateur boxing match, The Shamrock Showdown, being held at the Caboto Centre on Wilkes Avenue in Winnipeg on March 17.

Fittingly, for Molloy, it happens on St. Patrick's Day.
