Stephane Martin Bissonnette, 29, was apparently being watched by guards from the Provincial Remand Centre when he escaped at about 9 p.m. on Sunday.
Patrolling officers spotted him walking on Thursday afternoon near Balmoral Street and Cumberland Avenue and took him into custody.
While he was on the lam, Bissonnette allegedly robbed two banks — in the 300 block of Portage Avenue and the 1400 block of Main Street — both within about an hour on Jan. 26.
At the time of his escape, Bissonnette has been awaiting trial on charges of robbery and firearm offences stemming from an incident on Oct. 28, 2011.
Further investigation by police has resulted in charges relating to a bank robbery on Oct. 11 the 2000 block of McPhillips Street, a break-and-enter at a sports bar in the 300 block of Portage Avenue on Oct. 12, a break-in at a business on Sherbrook Street on Oct. 20 and a break-in at a residence in the 300 block of Seven Oaks Avenue on Oct. 27.
