A triple-murder trial began on Monday for a Manitoba man accused of killing his parents and brother in 2005.
Denis Jerome Labossiere is charged with three counts of first degree murder. His co-accused, being tried at the same time, is Michel Hince.
Denis Jerome Labossiere was charged with three counts of first-degree murder in May 2008. (CBC)Fernand Labossiere, 78, his wife, Rita, 74, and their son Remi, 44, were found dead in their home in St. Leon, Man., after a fire in November 2005. It was later determined they had been shot.
Manitoba's chief medical examiner, Dr. Thambirajah Balachandra, told the jury that Rita and Remi Labossiere had died before the fire started.
The court also heard testimony from three RCMP officers on Monday, as well as the Crown's opening statements.
Members of the Labossiere family sat in a Winnipeg courtroom as the trial got underway.
The family has faced a horrific series of events in recent years. In December, a man was convicted of murdering Magdalena and Joel Labossiere in their St. Vital home in April 2008.
Joel was the grandson of Fernand and Rita.
