A teen was struck by a car in Winnipeg after being shoved into the path of a car during a robbery.

The 17-year-old boy was confronted by several people just before 4:30 p.m. Thursday near Sargent Avenue and Simcoe Street in the city's West End.

One of them grabbed the teen from behind in an attempt to steal his backpack, police said.

The teen tried to fight them off and during the altercation he was pushed onto the roadway and struck by a car.

The suspects then fled with his backpack.

The teen was sent to hospital in unstable condition but has since been upgraded to stable.

His backpack was recovered nearby but no arrests have been made.
