About 1,000 people shared in Christmas dinner Wednesday at the Salvation Army's Booth Centre in Winnipeg.

They dined on 500 pounds of potatoes, 400 pounds of ham, 49 turkeys, boat loads of gravy, cranberries and stuffing, and 240 cream pies.

For the Salvation Army's Major Karen Hoeft, it's all about being part of the community.

"It means family; it means tradition; it means coming together and sharing, and good will, and just really bringing community together and being a community partner in this corner of Winnipeg," she said.

Donations made all the food possible — the dollars dropped into Christmas kettles around the city and online.
