Two 15-year-old Winnipeg boys are facing second-degree murder charges after a man died Tuesday from injuries he received after being beaten with a baseball bat.

The man, 48, suffered severe head trauma after he went to help his 18-year-old daughter in front of a house in the 400 block of Dufferin Avenue in Winnipeg on Aug. 24.

Two groups were arguing over gangs when the two accused left and returned with a baseball bat.

The man and his daughter were in the area, and were attacked, even though they were not involved in the gang dispute.

The man suffered serious head trauma after being hit numerous times with the bat.

The daughter was also hit, but was treated and released from hospital.

The boys were initially charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and possession of a dangerous weapon. One of them also is charged with failing to comply with a court sentence.
