A 17-year-old girl faces a manslaughter charge in the aftermath of a deadly melee between two families that spilled onto a Winnipeg street early Saturday.

Police said that around 2:50 a.m. Saturday officers were called to the 1000 block of Garfield Street N after a brawl erupted between two families who had been socializing at a house party.

Between 15 and 20 people were involved in the street brawl and as many as 10 were injured.

The dispute escalated as people armed themselves with a variety of weapons including bats and shovels.

At one point a car and a van were driven into each other and three people were hit.

"The two vehicles were just sort of fighting each other — they looked like bulls that were hitting each other," said witness Marc Duguay. "They would back up and they would ram each other, and I'm thinking, 'This is crazy,' and they would spin their tires and smoke was everywhere."

Marcel Murdock, age 40, died.

Another man, age 21, remains in critical condition. A woman, 39, is listed in stable condition. Several others were treated and released from hospital.Marcel Murdock, 40, died as a result of the brawl. Facebook

Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit are investigating but police said Sunday a 17-year-old girl is charged with manslaughter, dangerous driving causing death and two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

As well, an 18-year-old man faces numerous charges including two counts of assault with a weapon. And a 39-year-old man is charged with assault with a weapon and other charges.

They remain in custody.
