A 27-year-old man charged in connection to an officer-involved shooting is out of hospital and now in jail.
The shooting happened just after 2 a.m. on July 21 when a man pulled out a knife and tried to rob a taxi driver near St. Mary's Road and Essex Avenue.
The cabbie managed to get out and was chased around the vehicle by the suspect before another passing cab notified police.
When officers arrived, the suspect allegedly charged at them. The man was shot and transported to hospital in critical condition then upgraded to stable before being released this week.
The 27-year-old has been charged with numerous counts of assault, as well as uttering threats, failing to comply with conditions of a previous release, robbery and possessing a weapon for dangerous purpose.
He also had two outstanding warrants for his arrest, stemming from incidents in April and May.
He is in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
The two officers, with 12 and 13 years on the force, have been placed on administrative leave. Police have not said how many shots were fired.
