A Taser cartridge believed to have been lost by police in Winnipeg's North End has been found.

The police service issued a public warning on Sunday, advising anyone who found the piece of equipment — which is used to fire the stun gun weapon — to not touch it but contact them immediately.

The cartridge was safely recovered after being found inside a police station.

The cartridge is not the electric stun gun's firing unit but does contain the device's probe wires.

There was concern that if the cartridge was out in the public domain and someone picked it up and put it in their pocket, a build-up of static energy could activate it, causing the electric probes to be propelled.

Last year, the police service issued warnings on five occasions after the same type of cartridges fell off patrol officers' belts.
