Winnipeg police are asking for the public's help in investigating the city's latest homicide.
The body of Cara Lynn Hiebert, 31, was found in her home in the 500 block of Redwood Avenue by construction workers, police said, adding that the mother of four had been physically assaulted.
Anyone who had recent contact with Hiebert should get in touch with Winnipeg police, Const. Natalie Aitken told CBC News.
"Timing is often very significant in these cases, and we're trying to gather as much evidence as we can as quickly as possible," Aitken said.
Hiebert's killing is Winnipeg's 23rd homicide so far this year, one more than the city recorded in all of 2010. Police said it's difficult to account for the spike this year, but that the deadly house fire that killed five people last week contributed to the toll.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
Roselyn Greyeyes, a neighbour, said she heard a commotion on Tuesday night.
"We heard a loud bang, and my friend said 'that sounds too loud for firecrackers.'"
