A second person has been charged with murder in connection to the stabbing death of Abdul Rahim Mah Jemei in downtown Winnipeg.

A 24-year-old man is charged with second-degree murder and assault with a weapon for his alleged involvement in the March 16 incident on Vaughan Street, just off Portage Avenue.

He is in police custody.

Previously, a 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged with second degree murder. He remains in custody at the Manitoba Youth Centre.

Jemei, 22, and a 19-year-old man were attacked and stabbed at about 9 p.m. March 16. Jemei died soon after while the other man, who was wounded in the upper body, was treated and released from hospital.

Jemei's death is the city's eighth homicide of 2011.
