Several students at Shaftesbury High School in Winnipeg are expected to be suspended after a teenage boy was attacked near the school on Tuesday.

Police and school officials are investigating the incident in which a girl allegedly kicked and beat the boy, according to the 14-year-old's mother. The incident was recorded on a phone, then posted on Facebook.

Pembina Trails School Division Supt. Lawrence Lussier said the girl, who was the alleged agressor, will have to undergo a risk assessment and will be suspended for the violence.

It's believed 20 students watched and Lussier said onlookers will also be punished. "The other kids, they will all receive consequences for their behaviour. And that will include various levels of suspension for one thing," said Lussier.

The boy's mother says he didn't fight back because he didn't want to hit a girl.

The mother has filed a police report and provided officers with the video. "I have to tell you the principal and vice principal [were] very helpful," she said.
