A methane gas leak caused by an equipment malfunction led to the explosion at a barn on Leblanc Road in the Rural Municipality of Ritchot last Thursday evening, police said.
The shed was damaged, but there were no injuries to any livestock or people, police said.
The explosion has been ruled accidental.
The RM of Ritchot is located just south of Winnipeg.
