The Winnipeg Police Service will unveil a new design on its cruiser cars Wednesday, switching from blue and white to classic black and white.
One of the new designs for vehicles being proposed to Winnipeg Police Service members. (Menno Zacharias)Two designs have been under consideration.
In addition to changing colours, the service is also planning to change the motto.
It's expected the phrase Community Commitment, presently featured on the force's fleet of vehicles, is to be replaced with the motto: Building Relationships.
The rebranding is intended to offer greater visibility, improve the image of the service, and increase officer morale.
The improved visibility comes from the new decals with better reflective qualities.
Another design features bold stripes running the length of the vehicle.
(Menno Zacharias)The last time the service went through a major change in its appearance was in December 1989, when it switched its vehicles from the traditional black and white to the current colours.
Uniforms also changed at that time with new dark blue shirts, pants with wide red stripes and red hatbands.
