(Manitoba Metis Federation)The mother of a teenaged boy who died after being shocked by a police stun gun in 2008 is suing the City of Winnipeg, the Winnipeg Police Service and Taser International.
According to court documents, Sharon Shymko is seeking undisclosed financial compensation in connection to the death of her son, Michael Langan.
Langan was 17 on July 22, 2008, when he confronted police in an area behind a house in the 800 block of William Avenue, near Arlington Street.
Officers were searching for a robbery suspect at the time.
They claimed Langan held a knife and refused to put it down when ordered.
The officers shocked him with the stun gun to subdue him. Langan was admitted to hospital in critical condition and died shortly after.

She also alleges police used excessive force that amounted to an assault on her son.
No statements of defence have yet been filed.
