Two people who died in a fiery crash near Kenora, Ont. on Thursday were from Winnipeg.

A 46-year-old woman and 19-year-old man died when the Dodge Caravan they were in went off the highway, struck a rock cut and burst into flames, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

Two other men, aged 47 and 18, were also in the van. They are both in critical condition in a Thunder Bay hospital, being treated for life-threatening injuries.

The OPP issued a press release Friday, saying all four people are from Winnipeg. The victims' names have not been released because police are trying to locate next-of-kin.

The crash happened at about 8 a.m. on Highway 17A, also known as the Kenora Bypass, near Jones Road.

The bypass was closed to traffic for several hours between Hwy 658 and the east junction with Highway 17 while police investigated the scene.
