Three men are in custody accused of a string of violent robberies at different drugstores, Winnipeg police said Friday.
The most recent case took place Wednesday afternoon when, according to police, two men went into a drug store on the 1700 block of Logan Avenue.
One of them had a silver-coloured handgun. They demanded some prescription medications and took off in a getaway car with a driver who was waiting for them.
Police said they got a break when an observant motorist noticed what was going on and contacted police.
Officers caught up to two of the suspects on Larsen Avenue. The third person was arrested two days later.
According to police, their investigation has linked the men to three other drugstore robberies:
- May 25, on Watt Street.
- May 26, on Henderson Highway
- May 27, on Regent Avenue
Police said they also discovered $44,000 worth of marijuana plants in house on the 500 block of Gateway Road and have laid a charge against one of the suspects in relation to that.
The accused are all from Winnipeg:
- Nathan Hamm, 25, faces four charges of armed robbery and is accused of drug-trafficking.
- Ronald Clifford Fredericks, 50, faces one charge of armed robbery
- Da Daniel The Nguyen, 25, faces two armed robbery charges
The trio were also charged with a number of weapons offences.
All of them were being held in custody.
