Oilers' goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin has been arrested in Arizona and charged with driving under the influence. (Scottsdale Police Department)The Edmonton Oilers' injured goaltender, Nikolai Khabibulin, has been arrested in Arizona and charged with speeding and impaired driving.
The incident happened during the early hours of Feb. 8 in Scottsdale, according to the report from the arresting officer.
"I observed a black Ferrari travelling northbound at a high rate of speed," the report reads. "Radar confirmed its speed … at 60, 62, 66, and then 70 miles per hour in a 45 m.p.h. zone."
The report said Khabibulin's eyes were watery and bloodshot and mentioned an odour of alcohol on his breath and that he admitted drinking.
After a sobriety test, Khabibulin was arrested, then handcuffed and taken in for a blood test. He was later released.
The Oilers signed Khabibulin, 37, to a four-year contract worth $15 million last July.
In November, he stopped playing because of back problems, later diagnosed as a herniated disk that required surgery. No timetable was set for his return.
