A second site is being proposed for a Tim Hortons camp for disadvantaged youth in Manitoba's Whiteshell Provincial Park.
The provincial government says Sylvia Lake would be suitable for a facility that would have room for 260 kids between the ages of 13 and 17.
The announcement comes three months after initial plans for a proposed $10-million camp at Whiteshell's secluded Meditation Lake were scrubbed due to a public backlash and concerns about algae.
A wilderness group argued that there are many other areas of the park east of Winnipeg that are already developed and would be better suited to the camp.
Public hearings on the Sylvia Lake location are to be held in the park and in Winnipeg next month.
The consultations will be held:- In the Whiteshell – Tuesday, Feb. 16, Pinewood Lodge, Dorothy Lake, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- In Winnipeg – Wednesday, Feb. 17, Canad Inns Polo Park, 1405 St. Matthews Ave., 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Tim Hortons Children's Foundation runs five camps in Canada and a sixth in the U.S. state of Kentucky, all for underprivileged kids.
