Manitobans will be able to hop an express ride to Iceland starting next summer.

The Winnipeg Airports Authority announced on Wednesday the airline Iceland Express will offer two flights a week beginning in June.

The flights will be offered on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

In a written statement, Iceland Express said it is excited to open the route to connect the Icelandic community in Canada.

The Gimli area, north of Winnipeg, is home to the largest concentration of people of Icelandic ancestry outside of Iceland and hosts an annual Icelandic Festival.
