Brent Staple was last seen June 28, and his family has been searching for him ever since. (Corinne Staple)The family of a Winnipeg man who has been missing since June is desperately searching for him and holding a fundraising event to support the search.

Brent Staple, 33, disappeared from his University Crescent apartment on June 28, leaving behind his truck, laptop and cellphone but no sign of where he went, said his sister Corinne Staple.

The missing persons unit of the Winnipeg Police Service has suggested to his family that he could have left of his own accord and wants to be left alone, but Corinne Staple said she refuses to believe that.

"More often than not, they would say to me, 'Well, we think he just wanted to get away. We just think he decided to leave'," she said. "They were just throwing it off … and trying to get me to just discredit it — just to forget that he was gone and go on."

Instead, she has ramped up her own search efforts. Staple has put missing posters around the city, created a Facebook page and is raising money to hire a private detective.

She has also created a website page with links to news stories, photos of her brother and a video surveillance still image of a man seen leaving with her brother from the apartment on June 28.

"I've personally walked along the riverbeds to see if we'd find him there, looked in dumpsters. Just any possible place, I've searched for him," Staple said.

Brent Staple is described as having brown hair, hazel eyes, measuring about 5-foot-10 and weighing about 170 pounds.

He was last seen wearing light blue jeans, a dark jacket, dark t-shirt, black work boots and a baseball hat with the logo of Air Unlimited, where he worked. He was also carrying a shiny Labatt's Blue bag and a second bag over his shoulder, possibly a cooler.

The man leaving the building with him is described as Caucasian, in his 60s, about 5-foot-10, approximately 180 pounds, with short, greyish hair and wide-rimmed glasses. He was walking with a noticeable limp.

The Winnipeg police have asked that anyone with information about the two man call the missing persons unit at 204-986-6250.
