A man was seriously injured after being shot in a Dufferin Avenue home late Saturday. Police surrounded the building for more than two hours. (Shaun McLeod/CBC)A 27-year-old man was shot inside a home in Winnipeg's North End on Saturday night, resulting in a large police response and the closing of several streets in the area.
Just before midnight CT, the heavily armed tactical support team was called to an apartment complex in the 500 block of Dufferin Avenue near Andrews Street where the injured man was found outside.
Police said on Sunday that the victim and two other men were involved in an argument at a residence in the complex when he was shot.
The man was rushed to hospital in serious condition. He underwent emergency surgery and is now listed in stable condition. No other information about him was available.
A police dog was also called in. (Shaun McLeod/CBC)Police surrounded the building and blocked off a number of surrounding streets.
Witnesses said police remained on scene for about two hours as they tried to make contact with someone inside the building.
“All of a sudden, just out of nowhere, there was at least 10 cars coming out from all directions and then they came out with their big speakers and talking some stuff,” said Melvin Parenteau, who lives nearby.
Parenteau said he heard what he believed was a gunshot prior to police arriving.
Shortly after 2 a.m. police entered one of the apartments in search of a suspect.
A 29-year-old man is in custody in connection with the shooting, police said early Sunday morning. They did not identify him, but said he faces a variety of charges.
