Nolan Norman, 19, died after being attacked in Transcona early Saturday morning. (Facebook)A 20-year-old man is facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with the death of a Winnipeg teenager this weekend, city police say.
Nolan Norman, 19, died as a result of injuries, including stab wounds to his upper body, after an attack early Saturday in Winnipeg's Transcona neighbourhood.
Norman collapsed in a convenience store parking lot at the intersection of Regent Avenue and Day Street around 4 a.m. CT. Saturday.
His injuries, however, were not inflicted in the parking lot.
Winnipeg police Const. Jacqueline Chaput said on Sunday that they believe Norman had been in a fight with another man either Friday night or early Saturday morning.
That man went to a home where a party was happening and told friends about what happened, police said.
Chaput said it appears a group of people then went out looking for Norman.
They came across the 19-year-old and his friend in the 300 block of Victoria Avenue, not far from the convenience store, police said.
Both men were attacked, but managed to get away and call police. Norman was rushed to hospital but he died. His death is Winnipeg's 26th homicide of 2009.
His friend was also taken to hospital and is in stable condition. Police didn't identify him.
Chaput confirmed on Sunday that one man has been arrested and is facing a murder charge.
Jordan Allan Costello is being held at the Winnipeg Remand Centre, police said. Costello is also accused of breaching the conditions of a prior release from police custody.
Chaput said police expect to lay more charges in the case.
