An incident in Winnipeg's Transcona neighbourhood early Saturday has left one man dead and several people in police custody.

Police and emergency crews were called to a convenience store parking lot at the intersection of Regent Avenue and Day Street around 4:00 Saturday morning.

That's where they found a 19-year-old man with a number of injuries, including stab wounds to his upper body. He was rushed to hospital, but died.

The injuries, however, were not inflicted in the parking lot.

It turns out the man had made his way to the convenience store from the 300 block of Victoria Avenue, about three blocks away from the convenience store, a 7-Eleven.

The injured man was with a friend when the two made their way to the store's parking lot.

Later in the morning, at the Victoria Avenue address, police were seen taking a number of people into custody.

"Some of the people who were in that area are currently in police custody and being interviewed," Const. Jacqueline Chaput said later Saturday morning. "If they were suspects or witnesses, I'm not privy to that information. But the investigators are still requesting that anyone with information to contact them."

Police have not released the name of the victim.
