A 55-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a 17-hour standoff in northern Manitoba.
Allan Walter Witt has also been charged with assault and dangerous driving.
The standoff erupted Wednesday after a stabbing in the remote community of Flin Flon, about 800 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg on the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border.
Sgt. Nolan Suss said officers were called at about 8 p.m. Wednesday to a home in the town after a man allegedly stabbed a woman during a domestic argument.
The woman, 47, fled the home with another woman and called police, Suss said in a statement on Thursday.
When officers arrived, a man barricaded himself in the home.
Emergency response teams from Winnipeg and Saskatchewan were called in to assist, Suss said. The man surrendered at 1 p.m. Thursday.
The woman who was stabbed was taken to hospital in Winnipeg by air ambulance. She is listed in stable condition with injuries that are not life threatening, Suss said.
Witt, a resident of Flin Flon, has been remanded into custody to appear in provincial court in The Pas on Nov. 23.
