A man was shocked with a stun gun after leading police on a vehicle chase Wednesday morning. (Submitted by Shaun McLeod)A 33-year-old man was shocked with a stun gun following a police chase in Winnipeg on Wednesday.
The pursuit started around 1 a.m. after officers attempted to stop a vehicle near Kenaston Boulevard and Sterling Lyon Parkway in the city's southwest.
The suspect raced away, heading down the parkway to Wilkes Avenue before cutting through the Elmhurst neighbourhood to Grant Avenue.
The vehicle was finally stopped in the 3900 block of Grant in front of the Charleswood Centre Mall.
Winnipeg Police spokesperson Const. Jacqueline Chaput said the man refused to get out of his vehicle and became belligerent with officers.
"He was hanging on to the steering wheel. There was numerous requests for him to comply and he refused to comply," she said. "They did have him manage to exit the vehicle, and at that time he just kept fighting with officers."
The man did not require medical treatment after being jolted, police said, adding he is in custody and has been charged with impaired driving and fleeing from police.
