Winnipeg public works officials say a well-travelled footbridge in the city's largest park is closing Wednesday for repairs.

The Assiniboine Park footbridge, a major north-south river-crossing path for pedestrians and cyclists, will close for one week, the city said Tuesday.

The closing is necessary to repair the surface of the pathway.

The bridge is slated to reopen at 4 p.m. CT on Oct. 21, officials said in a statement.
