An 18-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Winnipeg's South Point Douglas neighbourhood Wednesday morning.

Just after 3 a.m. Wednesday, a vehicle smashed into a hydro pole near the intersection of Higgins Avenue and Waterfront Drive, police said.

Two occupants were taken to hospital where the 18-year-old was later pronounced dead. The other person, a 23-year-old man, is in stable condition, police said.

The victim's name has not been released. Police did not say whether he was the driver or passenger.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation though police do not believe alcohol was a factor.

Higgins was closed in both directions between Maple Street and Waterfront Drive for most of the morning.
