More big names are lining up behind Andrew Swan's bid to become the next NDP leader and premier of Manitoba.
Attorney General Dave Chomiak, Education Minister Peter Bjornson and Transportation Minister Ron Lemieux are all backing the rookie cabinet minister, who has already garnered support from Health Minister Theresa Oswald and other high-profile New Democrats.
Swan — the minister of competitiveness, training and trade — is one of three men vying to replace Premier Gary Doer when he steps down to become Canada's ambassador to the U.S. One of those candidates, Greg Selinger, got a big backer Friday in Bill Blaikie, a former MP, who jumped to provincial politics last spring.
The other contender is Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Steve Ashton.
