Scott McGillivary, 26, was shot to death outside this duplex on Winnipeg's Flora Avenue early Tuesday. (CBC)A man shot and killed at a home on Flora Avenue early Tuesday has been identified as Scott McGillivray, 26, of Winnipeg.
McGillivray had stepped out his north end Winnipeg duplex to have a cigarette around 2:00 a.m. when he was shot in the heart, police said.
McGillivray's family told CBC News that the young man stepped outside the back door because he did not want to smoke with a five-year-old son and pregnant girlfriend inside the house.
Just steps from the back door of his house he was met by two men and a woman. There was an argument and McGillivray was shot with a .22-calibre bullet, police said.
McGillivray's girlfriend and his son, Joshua, 5, were in the house at the time.
Police say although McGillivray was associated with some gang members he was not a member of any gang and they do not believe the shooting was gang-related.
McGillivray is Winnipeg's 18th homicide victim of 2009.
