Winnipeg police are clamping down on speeders during summertime cruise nights.

Sunday cruise night has become a "citywide phenomenon," according to police, who say most participants don't break the law. However, officers continue to get complaints about people racing or operating their vehicles in a dangerous and noisy way, Const. Jason Michalyshen said Tuesday.

"These complaints come from all areas of the city," he said, adding that, in order to address the issue, the Winnipeg Police Service has deployed resources throughout the city.

Last weekend, officers pulled over a speeding automobile on McPhillips Street, charged the driver with racing under the Highway Traffic Act and seized his vehicle.

Police will continue to operate dedicated patrols all summer long and are reminding drivers of a public awareness campaign that urges them to Just Slow Down.
