A mother who sent her daughter to school with white supremacist markings has the emotional age of a 14-year-old.

That's the assessment of a psychologist testifying at a custody hearing in Winnipeg on Wednesday.

As the mom wiped away tears, the psychologist said both parents had a tough childhood and feel they have been victimized by the system.

The psychologist said the parents appear to hold white supremacist views and alcohol abuse has also been a problem.

Manitoba Child and Family Services is trying to gain permanent custody of the girl and her younger brother over concerns about alleged racist teachings, drug and alcohol abuse.

The children were seized last year after the girl showed up at her elementary school with white supremacist symbols and slogans drawn on her skin in permanent marker.
