More sections of Highway 75 in southern Manitoba have been shut down because of flooding in the Red River Valley.
The entire roadway from Winnipeg to Highway 14 — a distance of about 87 kilometres — is now closed.
Heavy truck traffic is not allowed anywhere along that entire stretch of Highway 75, the province's major artery between the capital city and the U.S. border. However, local traffic is being allowed along certain portions, specifically from Winnipeg city limits to Highway 205, and from St. Jean Baptiste to Highway 14.
Motorists are asked to take either Highway 3 or 59. Other highways in the Red River Valley that are affected are 217 and 246.
As well, north of Winnipeg, River Road is closed, as are portions of highways 204 and 320.
"Definitely continue to watch the Red River Valley and north of the city up in the Selkirk area. Things are changing quite a bit, quite quickly, so we'll keep an eye on those areas," said Neil Gobelle, spokesperson for Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation.
Detour maps for southern Manitoba can be found online at the Manitoba government website, manitoba.ca, on the CBC link at the top right of the page.
