Winnipeg police have charged two of their officers with fabricating evidence, attempting to obstruct justice, and public mischief.

The police force, which announced the charges on Wednesday, has not said to what incident the charges relate.

Winnipeg police said the officers charged — Const. Graeme Beattie, 29, and Const. Paul Clark, 40 — have three years experience on the force.

They have been released from custody on a promise to appear in court. Both have been assigned to administrative duties pending an internal hearing into their cases.

The charges follow a four-month criminal investigation by the police force. The force submitted its files to the justice department, which had an independent counsel review them to determine if charges were appropriate.
