Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz was first elected in June 2004. (CBC)While he once said he wouldn't do it, Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz is considering taking a run at a third term in office.
The mayor is halfway through his second term.
And while he's previously said he would never serve for more than two terms, Katz told CBC News he may run again in the next civic election in two years' time.
"I'm certainly open to one more term," Katz said in an interview. "That would be the max from my point of view. I would certainly entertain running as long as I know I'm getting things done."
Looking forward to 2009, Katz said wants to iron out plans for a new football stadium at the University of Manitoba.
He also hopes to complete a rapid transit system from downtown to the university.
He said the city's highlights in 2008 include the official sod-turning for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, development of a new indoor soccer park and Scandinavian furniture-maker Ikea's announcement to possibly locate in the Manitoba capital.
