After recovering from injuries sustained in September, this great horned owl named Score was released back into the wild on Wednesday. A great horned owl named Score, who was rescued from entanglement in a soccer goal net at Winnipeg's Acadia School in September, has recovered from his injuries and was released Wednesday.
The young owl was pursuing a rabbit when he got caught in the goal net — hence the nickname "Score."
In a state of shock, and with his wing injured, the bird was rescued by staff from the Assiniboine Park Zoo and taken to the zoo hospital for examination and X-rays. He was later transferred to the Wildlife Haven where he recuperated from injured wing muscles.
Staff from the Wildlife Haven and Assiniboine Park Zoo hospital released the owl on its home territory — much to the joy of the bird and to students and staff at Acadia School in the Winnipeg suburb of Fort Garry.
