Evans wins 2nd term as Manitoba grand chief

The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs decided to stay the course, re-electing Ron Evans Wednesday to lead the organization for another three years.
First elected to the job of grand chief in 2005, Evans defeated three other challengers to hang on to the job for a second term.
Evans won 35 of 59 votes cast by Manitoba's chiefs in the first ballot during the election at the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation.
His competitors were Berens River First Nation Chief George Kemp, former Hollow Water First Nation Chief Ian Bushie and former Swan Lake First Nation Chief Robert Daniels.
Evans spent more than 10 years as chief of the Norway House Cree Nation, a community of 5,000 located at the north end of Lake Winnipeg, before moving to the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs.
The election was part of the organization's three-day general assembly that wraps up Thursday.
