Blue Bombers extend Arjei Franklin's contract

Arjei Franklin, right, will enter his third season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. (Sam Leung/Canadian Press)The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have extended the contract of Canadian wide receiver Arjei Franklin for two more years, the club announced Monday.
The Scarborough, Ont., native caught 36 passes for 452 yards in 10 games last season, his second with the club. He added nine catches in the playoffs, including two in the team's Grey Cup loss to Saskatchewan.
Franklin is part of a quartet of receivers who will all be back with the club, including Derick Armstrong, Terence Edwards and the CFL's all-time touchdown leader Milt Stegall.
"Arjei has emerged into a real threat for our football team and we are very pleased to have him continue to be part of our franchise,” Blue Bombers general manager Brendan Taman said in a statement. “Arjei has worked hard to become one of the top Canadian receivers in this league and to have him surrounded by three 1,000-yard receivers will only make him better.”
Franklin was selected in the third round of the 2006 Canadian draft after being a standout at the University of Windsor.
His contract extension runs through February 2010.
