Someone has been breaking into offices at the University of Winnipeg — but instead of stealing computers, the culprit has been using them to download porn from the internet.
Kate Sjoberg, the president of the University of Winnipeg Students Association, said Monday that there have been three reported break-ins at the offices of student groups in the past three weeks.
"Mostly we have noticed that the activity is about using the computers and using the computers to access the internet," Sjoberg said.
"And so with that comes porn sites and other things that folks are looking up on our computers at school."
Sjoberg said security patrols have been stepped up on campus and staff are determining the costs of installing new deadbolts on office doors.
As well, security blocks are being installed on the computers to stop the culprit or culprits.
"We will be putting new kind of devices on inside the computers to prevent it from happening in the future," Sjoberg said.
"That doesn't discount the fact it's a little unnerving that people are accessing our computers when people aren't around anyway, but that will be one thing that will kind of dissuade people from coming around and using them."
