Première ballerina Evelyn Hart, legendary rocker Neil Young and Olympians Cindy Klassen and Clara Hughes are among the latest Manitobans to receive the province's highest honour.

Young is scheduled to be presented with the Order of Manitoba at the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young concert Friday night at the MTS Centre.

The others were invested Thursday at a special ceremony at the legislative building in Winnipeg. Lt.- Gov. John Harvard presided over the investiture.

There were 12 candidates in all this year to receive the designation, considered the highest honour in the province.

They were:

  • Neil Bardal, leader in the Icelandic Canadian community.
  • Jennifer Botterill, Olympic medallist, Canadian women's hockey team.
  • James W. Burns, OC, investment executive and philanthropist.
  • Albert Cerilli, labour and social justice activist.
  • Eileen Collins, community volunteer.
  • Arnold Frieman, businessman, supporter of the arts and community volunteer.
  • Evelyn Hart, CC, internationally renowned ballerina.
  • Clara Hughes, Olympic medallist, cycling and speed skating.
  • Cindy Klassen, Olympic medallist, speed skating.
  • Donald Russell Pratt, Dakota elder, minister, promoter of Dakota language and culture.
  • Len Smith, inventor of the Tundra Buggy. 
  • Neil Young, musician and philanthropist.

The Order of Manitoba was conceived to recognize individuals who have excelled in their field and benefited the community as a whole.
