The Winnipeg-born rock group The Watchmen are back in the city to host a fundraiser for the Israeli bobsled team.
The team is raising money to get to the 2006 winter Olympics in Italy.
The connection to The Watchmen is fraternal: the band's lead singer, Danny Greaves, has a brother, David, who is just brave enough or maybe crazy enough to have joined the bobsled team a year ago.
David Greaves, who has dual Canadian-Israeli citizenship, says the team needs to raise $500,000.
"We're about 100K in so far," he says. "We've had success in the San Francisco area, where my two partners are from, and donations from Jews all over."
Greaves' sledmates are former U.S. Air Force pilot Aaron Zeff and former NFL receiver John Frank. The team needs the money to buy a bobsled and to pay for travel expenses.
The fundraising concert takes place Thursday night at the Delta Hotel Winnipeg. Tickets are $60 each and are available through the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg, the Rady Jewish Community Center, and the Delta Hotel.
