Standoff ends peacefully after 12 hours
A 12 hour standoff ended peacefully in the early hours of Saturday morning after a man had barricaded himself in a home in Tuxedo.
Police had originally been called to the 1800 block of Wellington Crescent to check-in on the 30-year-old after someone called saying they were worried about him.
Officers tried to make contact with the man, but the situation escalated.
Police suspected there could be weapons in his suite so they called out several units and surrounded the home. Several roads in the area were also closed off to traffic.
During that time, the man talked to local media outlets.
Members of the Crisis Negotiation Unit were also called out and the man surrendered to police at 12:45 a.m. and was taken into police custody.
Officers seized several airguns, airsoft pellets, a hatchet, holsters, a gas mask and knives.
The man is facing several charges including uttering threats to cause bodily harm, mischief and fail to comply with a probation order.
He has been detained at the Winnipeg remand centre.
