The family of a woman who was stabbed to death Friday in Winnipeg's North End is remembering her as a loving mother and aunt.

Earlier Saturday, police identified the woman as 37-year-old Lorie Maureen Bearbull of Winnipeg.

Police responded to a report of a stabbing off Salter Street and around 4:15 a.m. Friday. The victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition where she died.

Police have made no arrests in the case yet, but the homicide unit is investigating.

Bearbull's family is devastated.

Her brother, Jon Vivie, said the family is reeling with news of her violent death.

"I don't know why someone would do this to her," he said. "Everyone is puzzled because she is such a good person and she doesn't mean no harm to anyone you know."

Vivie said he was with his sister at a family barbecue just hours before she was killed.

"Right now I still can't believe it is her," he said. "It's kind of hard to take in a swallow at the moment. Unbelievable, what's happened to her. I can't believe it. I can't believe that she's gone."

Police are asking anyone with information to call investigators at (204) 986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
