St. Patrick's Day parade turning downtown Winnipeg green today
Get ready to see Irish dancers, music, leprechauns and, of course, plenty of green at the St. Patrick's Day parade in downtown Winnipeg this afternoon.
Now in its third year, the parade is encouraging all Winnipeggers to give winter the boot by embracing the St. Patrick's Day spirit and having fun.
"I think that we're ready to, yeah, shake off the winter blues and don our spring greens and have a little bit of fun in the streets," parade organizer Margaret Gannon told CBC News.
The parade starts at 2 p.m. and will feature floats, balloons, puppets and wagons. As well, the McConnell Irish dancers and leprechauns will pose for pictures.
"I am pretty super-excited," Gannon said with a laugh.
"It's always a ton of fun. I want them to all come out and have a really good time, and skip and dance and merry-make in the streets."
Drivers, take note of road closures along the parade route, which starts and ends at Shannon's Irish Pub and includes parts of St. Mary Avenue, Carlton Street, Hargrave Street, York Avenue, Main Street and Broadway.
