The St. Louis Blues scored on the power play with 3:02 left in the third period to edge the Jets 2-1 Tuesday night at the MTS Centre.

With Dustin Byfuglien in the box for hooking, Blues defenceman Kevin Shattenkirk blistered a shot from the point which was redirected before beating Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec.

The loss drops the Jets back to a .500 record at 14-14-4 once again, while the win improves the Blues to 20-6-3.

Pavelec made 18 saves in the loss and drops to 10-12-3 on the year, while Brian Elliot earned his fifth win of the season for the Blues, stopping 20 of 21 shots aimed his way.

The Jets had the edge in shots, 8-2, after 20 minutes, but were outplayed most of the period.

The best chance belonged to the Blues. With the Jets pressured in front of their own net, St. Louis winger Vladimir Tarasenko walked out of the right corner to an open shot at net only to beat Pavelec but be denied by the post.

The Blues carried the momentum in to the second frame, taking the game’s first lead 4:44 into the period. Blues forward — and former Winnipeger — Alexander Steen opened the scoring with his 21st of the season.

With pressure deep in the Jets' zone, Steen caught Pavelec napping, banking a shot off his back from deep in the corner to give the Blues a 1-0 edge. Steen has four goals in three games against the Jets this year.

The Jets evened things up with a power play goal from Bryan Little. Little’s 13th marker of the season snapped a 0-for-19 drought on the PP for the Jets.

Winnipeg entered the game with the league’s worst PP, converting on just 10.8 per cent of their opportunities. The Jets finish three periods, one for four with the man advantage.

Dustin Byfuglien led all Jets with 28:49 of ice time.
