Allegations that a 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a man on a bicycle in Winnipeg's St. James area were unfounded, according to police.
Police had reported that the girl was walking along Ness Avenue near Sturgeon Road on Tuesday morning when she was allegedly approached from behind by the cyclist.
It was alleged that as the girl moved over to allow the bike to pass, the man touched her inappropriately before riding away.
Police sought the public's help on Wednesday in locating the suspect, described as a man in his 60s who was riding a grey mountain bicycle.
But on Friday, police issued a release saying further investigation of the incident has led officers to conclude "that the incident is in fact unfounded."
Police did not elaborate on why investigators now believe the incident was unfounded.
