Small plane crashes in northern Manitoba
A 26-year-old man from Red Deer, Alta., escaped with minor injuries when the small plane he was flying crashed in remote northern Manitoba.
RCMP were notified about 3 p.m. Wednesday than an emergency locator transmitter had been activated on Island Lake, about 500 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.
Emergency crews responded in vehicles, snowmobiles and a helicopter and located the commercial Cessna 207 half an hour later.
The plane, operated out of Sandy Lake, Ont., had just taken off from Island Lake before it crashed in white-out conditions, RCMP said.
The pilot was transported to the Garden Hill nursing station for treatment of minor injuries. There were no passengers on board. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has been notified and police continue to investigate the crash.
