Shoppers seeks to spread out in Osborne Village
There could be some major changes coming to one of Osborne Village's busiest shopping corners.
The Shoppers Drug Mart at Osborne Street and Roslyn Road wants to double its 10,000-square-foot size by adding a second storey over part of the existing store and spreading out another 7,600 square feet along the ground level.
The proposal also includes adding a covered pedestrian walkway linking Shoppers to the nearby Safeway.
But to increase its footprint in the crammed plaza, the store needs to purchase two neighbouring buildings currently occupied by the independent video rental store Movie Village and Vietnamese restaurant Vi-Ann.
People who want to learn more about the proposal and weigh in on it, can take in a public open house at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave. on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
The city's board of adjustment will review the proposal at a meeting on Dec. 21.
