Shooting sends man, 18, to hospital
An 18-year-old man is in hospital in stable condition following a shooting Saturday morning in Winnipeg's west end, police say.
According to police, officers were dispatched to a home in the 400 block of Maryland Street around 6:20 a.m. CT following reports of a shooting.
Emergency crews found a man had suffered an unspecified number of gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital, initially in unstable condition, but later improved to stable.
Police have been on the scene investigating. They say no arrests had been made as of about midday Saturday, but interviews are still being conducted.
The location of the shooting is believed to be a rooming house.
People in the neighbourhood told CBC News that the place is known for loud parties.
They also maintained it was often the site of drug deals.
"What I've heard is a lot of yelling and screaming over the years," Leslie Ostrom said Saturday. There has been "partying outside and usually up against our house, too. No respect for the neighbourhood whatsoever," Ostrom said.
Some neighbours expressed hope that the shooting incident would lead to more police attention to the house.
